Thai Silk - Natural Dyes
This is very fine reeled silk yarn used by handweavers in Thailand. It was dyed by hand using natural materials from lotus and rice plants. Some of them still have the “ears” or loops for holding the skeins during the dye process. These dye materials are extremely rare. We were only able to purchase them in very small quantities. Thai reeled silk yarn, dyed by hand with fresh rice leaves right after harvest. Dyeing with rice leaves was an experiment by the dyer. The soft chartreuse is so glowing on the amazing sheen of the Thai silk that who could resist it? It’s so beautiful that it was instantly in demand. I was lucky they had some to share. I got just a few skeins.
From the same studio, this light grey color comes from the stem of the red lotus plant. It’s a lovely, elegant color.
The red lotus flower contains a natural compound that yields this glorious greenish gold.
This sophisticated arker grey is a deeper depth of shade from the same stem of the red lotus plant.
